Visit Bristol The story of the Müller Orphan Homes in Bristol Mar 3, 2021 — In 1865, George had received enough money to buy more land. 'No. 4 House' opened in 1868 and 'No. 5 House' in 1870. Both houses accommodated 450 orphans. Ashley Down was now home to 2,050 orphaned children plus staff. George never did any fund-raising, never asked for any money but prayed every day for the resources needed to care for the orphans. He received answers to his prayers through the generosity of thousands of gifts given or sent to him by the people of Bristol and, as the work grew, from all over the world. In his lifetime, he received over £100m in today's money and cared for over 10,000 orphans in his lifetime. Prevailing Intercessory Prayer George Müller: Founder of Bristol Orphanage Founder of Orphanage. George Müller, a Christian evangelist and Director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England, cared for 10,024 orphans in his life. He was well-known for providing an education to the children under his care, to the point where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life. He also established 117 schools which offered Christian education to over 120,000 children, many of them being orphans. He did all of this by seeking means from God through prayer. “I have joyfully dedicated my whole life to the object of exemplifying how much may be accomplished by prayer and faith.” en.wikipedia.org New Orphan Houses, Ashley Down - Wikipedia The New Orphan Houses, Ashley Down, commonly known as the Muller Homes, were an orphanage in the district of Ashley Down, in the north of Bristol. They were built between 1849 and 1870 by the Prussian evangelist George Müller to show the world that God not only heard, but answered, prayer. Müller was known for providing education to the children in his care, and for establishing 117 schools that offered Christian education to over 120,000 children. The children were given a Bible upon leaving the orphanage, along with a tin trunk containing two changes of clothing. Müller also employed an inspector to maintain high standards, and many claimed that nearby factories and mines were unable to obtain enough workers because of his efforts in securing apprenticeships, professional training, and domestic service positions for the children. Müller believed that God heard and answered prayer, and dedicated his life to demonstrating how much can be accomplished by prayer and faith. He memorized Scripture, and would read his Bible and pray every morning after breakfast. The George Müller Museum celebrates Müller's story, with original artifacts, interactive exhibits, and replicas of orphan records.
